How impressive is 115-140 fps?

Hi guys,

I have been going HAM on a new hardware dedicated for resolume.

Here below are my hardware spec:

1x ASUS Z10PE-d8 WS Mobo
1x Intel Xeon E5-2640v4, 2.4Ghz, Cache 25MB, LGA2011-v3
4x Team DDR4 ECC Reg Server Ram 16GB 2133Mhz (Running 64gb)
1x MSI GTX 1080 Armor 8GB DDR5x 256 bit
and LOADS OF FANS to keep the heat far farrrrrr away!

I wanted to ask, how impressive is running 115 to 140 FPS range consistently with playing and previewing 1920x1080@30p with a DXV 3 codec through the Resolume ui? (it means I am not out putting into any external monitors)
How can I achieve better FPS? Maybe a better GPU with higher VRam and memory bandwidth?

Thanks

Note: I am also running Resolume and its clip(s) on a Samsung SSD 850 PRO 2.5" SATA III 1TB

My Razer Blade (GTX 1060) Idles at 140fps and typically runs 3-4 layers at 114fps. If I'm at 6-8 layers with FX (ie Delay RGB) It runs about 88fps. All content is 1080 DXV3

Personally, As long as i'm over 80fps I'm happy

Thank you very much for the reply.
That sounds very impressive with the spec difference that I had
What would you suggest in order for me to get higher fps?

Do you really need it higher?!

I believe the human eye can't notice any difference somewhere after 70-80fps (don't quote me on that).
What frame rate is your content rendered into?

How many layers and FX are you planning to run simultaneously? Everyone has different workflow but I rarely use more than 3-4 layers at once. I will however stack 4-6 FX on top of those, but even then I'm at 80+fps.

What advantages is having more than 100fps going to achieve for your setup?

Hehehehehe yea you're probably right.
My contents, depending on the show, mostly are rendered to 30 to 60 FPS at max so I should be safe as long as it's above 60.
It is just out of my curiosity to achieve higher fps (and for me to keep sane) and maybe, just in case, running 10+ layers :ugeek: (probably won't)

Download the stress test and you'll find out that a GTX1080 can run over 20 layer of 1080 and still be above 60fps. I think you'll be in the clear for years to come (unless you start planning on using 4k or 8k resolutions, then you'll be at about 14 layers-ish before dropping under 60fps)

You should be in clear ;)

I've never actually tried 8k's.
I hope to try it soon!
I'll get some M.2's on the way ;)

It's not the size of your boat that matters ;)

Hi,

I got my hands on a Samsung NVME 960 Pro M.2 ssd earlier today.
It shows some results where before I would idle at 130 fps average, now it gets to 150 fps on average, thougt it can get as high as 170 from time to time but it is not consistent up there.
Right now, I am thinking of upgrading GPU, which matters most on most of the situation? The vram or the memory bandwidth?

Thank you
