ISSUE #1
With a composition open and several decks loaded. If you use the "close" command on a deck it does close the deck but also clears all the clips in the next deck in the line.

ISSUE #2
Adding an effect to a layer effects all the clips on that layer as it should. However, if that layer is not selected the effects do not work. Effects only work if the layer is selected and highlighted.

ISSUE #3
Why aren't there "global effects"? Ones that effect everything regardless of layer. This seems true by adding effects to "composition" and effects do work in the program monitor, however they do not work on the video out to external monitor.

Below is a short video showing an effects added to "composition" that is working within Arena but does not show on the external monitor.



Any advice?

When mapping take a closer look at target, your mapping to selected layer not this layer. Change your mapping target and your effects will work. This caught me too.

Edit. For issue three your not choosing a layer as a source by chance are you?

How do you add the effects to the layer?
Please post a screenshot showing your effect and layer, so it's easier to figure out what might be going on!
If you are using MIDI Shortcuts for example then your issue is probably what Drazkers said, but you said nothing about MIDI and switching effects on and off...

Composition effects don't affect the Slice outputs where you have set a Layer as input for the slice.

BY "how do I add the effects to the layer" do you mean how do I switch the effect on and off or how do apply it to a layer for use?

Hue Rotate added to the Layer FULLBOTTOM. Layer FULLBOTTOM is selected so the effect works fine. The hue rotate attribute in the effect is assigned to a mini shortcut.

What else do you need to see?
I'm not sure where you change the mapping target.

It's in the Shortcuts panel, which only shows, when you are in Shortcut mapping,
That's the first option, where you probably have "Selected Layer" selected.

Is there some kind of work around for this? The way that I have been doing it is adding the same effects to every layer. It works but its redundant and a waste of resources.

That depends on what you need to achieve.
If you have multiple layers to multiple slices in Advanced Output in the same order and same location and size, then you probably only need one slice at all with it's input set to composition.

I have a handful of effects that I use across everything. I assign those to MIDI. So no matter where I am I the set, whatever deck is loaded etc. if I want to trigger the terrain effect (for example) it is always there.

Why 7 layers to 7 slices? Are you mapping each slice independently within the same screen?

That's why you have a non functioning composition effects. Your using a layer as a slice source. This isn't a bug it's a handy feature.

I suspect he has 7 surfaces and each layer is for each surface.
