GTX 1070 VS 1080

So I have a 1070 in my rig right now and its working well. This setup is mainly used when we need IMAG input and output to LED walls and projectors at the same time.

Ive been throwing around the idea of upgrading the card to a 1080 but i'm not too sure how much better it would be. Has anyone had experience with both cards that can help out?

I got a 1070 myself instead of 1080. I doubt the difference will be massive enough to justify the 1080... Specially since you already have the 1070. I would just roll with the 1070 for now and wait until the 11xx series come out (if they are going to be called that way).

@ xdjxklusivex - If you work with lots of pixels, layers & effects, the 1080 (especially the 1080ti) will make a huge difference but if what you do is one or two HD projector with few layer and effects then the 1070 will be fine.

As Daniel pointed out, since you already own the 1070, I would keep working with it but if you were trying to decide whether to purchase the 1080 or 1070 for a new rig, I would highly recommend getting a 1080ti as that would be a small investment (an extra $300 or so) that you wouldn't regret!

Thanks for the input guys.

Daniel at the time of purchase the main use for the computer was actually just my home desktop so I couldnt justify the extra cost for the 1080... Had I know I would be using it for this work I would have forked up the extra $$ for sure.

Oaktown, for a show this past weekend I noticed I was down to 27-30 fps, I was running all LED panels but 4 sets of panels so the content was different on everything, with efx layers and logos over everything. When running benchmark I was able to get 20+ layers in 1080 so I am not sure how to judge the cards performance.

I will keep an eye out for a 1080ti :-D Do you have any other suggestions other than the 1080?

Personally I think that the upgrade from a 1070 to a 1080 is a bit of a waste of money. Yes it does perform a bit better (about 15%-25% better across the board according to user bench mark score but I would suggest just skipping the 1080 and going straight to the Titan X. More expensive but going to last a lot longer and the difference will be instantly noticeable.

You won't see much of a difference between a 1070 vs a 1080. You may see a decent bump going to a 1080 ti tho.

With the 1070 you basically need to go to the top end to see a big jump in performance. That or wait for the next generation.

The price increase related to the performance increase if a fairly good deal IMO, for the Titan X anyway. I would love to get a Z but 3K is a lot for one graphics card.

Yah i'm with Oaktown on this one, the 1080ti has the best price to performance for sure. People shouldn't be looking to upgrade from the 1070 to the 1080 they should be looking to the 1080ti
