Slice Transform effect shows full screen with no slices active | v6 Beta 3

Just stated playing with the Slice Transform effect. Nice!

It doesn't seem appropriate for it to show fullscreen when there are no active slices (except for case when Scaling is set to Mask). This includes when no slices are in the list, when all slices in the list have the Bypass option selected, and when you Solo a slice that has the Bypass option selected.

Example:

Create a bunch of slices that represent musical notes.
Add the "note" slices to the Slice Transform.
For each slice, MIDI map the Bypass option to Piano mode with Invert.

Now when you play your keyboard (or have some other MIDI notes input, eg from a sequencer, DAW, etc) then the "notes" on screen are activated. Unfortunately if no notes are pressed, then all notes are shown (the whole layer/comp).

This has been made such, because when you drop the Slice transform effect, then without any slices it would not display black.
The black BG switch should make the effect's background black, with the slices disabled also I think, which it does not.
I created a ticket, #10084.

Plenty of effects do "not nice" things when you just drop them on your composition. Make the behaviour consistent. "Mask" scaling gets it right.

Perhaps a workaround is for this effect (and maybe others) to have the Bypass switch activated by default. Alternatively, it seems that the Bypass switch status is saved with presets. You can create a preset that is bypassed when dragged on to an empty clip slot, a clip, a layer, or a group (just tested now).
