More and more vjs are offering footage for sale:

TriggerMotion is offering specific resolume interactive flash movies that look really good. 8 clips for $16 .

Garrett Wasny has only 6 clips available but has more comming and the quality is supurb. $0.99 per clip or 4.99 for 6 clips.

MotionLoops has quite a lot on offer but i think the content is super corny. 25 clips for $49 or 8x25 clips for $199

In the ideal world i guess it would be great if everyone could create his/her own footage. Yhis way every vj would have his unique style but what if you do not have time to do this? or what if you need footage that is hard or expensive to make yourself? (ie explosions, car crashes, etc)

What do you think of vjs putting up footage for sale? Have you ever bought any footage yourself? If you have never bought any what is holding you back? What do you think is a reasonable price per clip??

Just curious what you guys think ;-)

good idea....

i think is a good idea because in my opnion to be a good VJ you don't need to make your own footage i know some groups that one person make the footage and another mix then :)

Of course we need it!

I've being a Vj since a lot of years now, begining a long time ago with mixing 8 & 16mm films, slides, negatives...all what could be projected. That for i use a lot of my photos and old 16mm that i repaint ( a f*king long job!) but i use too old commercial films and slides, but i don't buy them...i have to found them....most in the attic.

Than i discover the computer! a complete new world, and finally after one year looking on the web : Resolume

I think it's a good idea to sale footage because some of them take a lot's of time to make and not all vj know how to make them.

Being a vj, good or bad one! Don't necessarily mean you have to make your footage(dixit by Danger too), I work in France , before comming back to amsterdam, with a team of 5 Vj's and 2 of them don't have them own one's,and they are very good, it's very strange to see your footage sometimes better mixed by other ones.

But in a perfect vision of Vjing, each one should have his own style and that mean you have to make your footage.

The best option is to mix the two, i guess that most of us use this solution.

the price.... for me so cheap as possible!... most of them are between 1 and 2 $, look like a good price....

but cheaper than all, we have our imagination...just use it...

i am totally agree with the point of, creating your own content but, if you are working as a full time vj them u can create your own unique clips i suppose. but for me, or guyz like different personalities :P, i can not create a whooole set of video clips. i only have time to create something spectacular or attracting for/to me. and of course, clips for the artists and/or sponsors/promoters requests.

therefore buying clips? yeah, if I do not do that, i have to use the same clips again and again and again... about the style, in my humble opinion, create or buy, every vj has his/her own unique style, which cames from the culture he/she grew. I am %99.9 sure that, if we give the exact set of the same clips to different vjs, each ones show will be different than the others. also, with the softwares like resolume, you can also, manipulate the clips on the fly, so you can create lots of different content with the same clip.

best wishes everyone...

Just to answer Bart question .... i've never bought any vj footage as most of the times they are already heavily processed and/or mixed. The footage/clips i like are something raw and basic which i'll transform and manipulate according to my personal views and feelings to get something reflecting (hopefully) my personality.
