why do i often get "link broken" on the dashboard control settings

i have a midi controller linked with the dashboard parameters (but the controller isnt always plugged in)

I can't recreate this.
Could you describe the steps needed for this to happen?

im not sure when or how it happens but i think those dashbaord knobs are mapped to a dial on an apc40 mkii and its not currently plugged in
