Sync ProTools and Resolume - 2 Macs

I am new to resolume and have a question about syncing one mac using pro tools for backing tracks and another mac running resolume for video panels. I am unsure if SMPTE, MIDI or WordClock is best and/or if ALL of them will do what we are trying to do.

If I played a 30 minute song sequence on pro tools.
Then I have a 30 minute video file in resolume.
In MIDI i porgam the video to start on beat one with both
audio and video, which is fine and easy to understand.
However, what if I started the sequence in the middle
of the 30 min song… past the midi trigger on beat one…
would it understand where i am and will scrub with me?
I don’t understand how that can happen with Midi triggers, as
I only triggered the midi with one hit saying play… I assume
this HAS to be in SMPTE to understand the entire locking process..
I could be wrong, so that is why I ask..
Also, any info on word clock?? does that work too????
will word clock be understood by resolume and is it good to use?
as good as smpte?

also, if i want to use your software on my desktop to edit and then use
the laptop for the shows, can i use it on both computers with one license?

this graphic might explain my question better

Thanks for the help

Create a SMPTE track in PT, send that out on it's own dedicated channel and not to be sent down any out bus.
Send that output to the Resolume machine and check your SMPTE settings in Resolume's audio preferences.
This will not sync the playheads together.
You'll want to make sure your length's and fps of your clips and comp also match the SMPTE settings.

You can also send MIDI from PT to do control changes. You'll need to configure both PT and Resolume's MIDI preferences to be able to talk to each other.

PT Example:
Track 1: Click track for drummer - Output 1 (L) sent to monitors
Track 2: Aux instruments that are not played live - Output 2 (R) sent to FOH and monitors
Track 3: SMPTE - Output 3 (C) sent to Resolume
Track 4: MIDI - Output via MIDI port on IO or via ethernet (requires software for conversion) sent to Resolume

In PT's Timeline, You would have a delay before the tracks start, in that delay you would do your MIDI command to load a specific clip, then a seconds after that, your clips will start. When the clips start, the SMPTE will sync the video to the audio.
As soon as the tracks end, you would do another MIDI command to clear the video from Resolume.

Repeat this process for all of your PT tracks. Making sure all the SMPTE matches the videos fps and length so everything is in sync.

In Resolume, make sure your SMPTE and MIDI are setup to match the clips and PT.
Assign SMPTE as your playback start, stop, and sync in each of your clips you want SMPTE to control.

That's about it :)

Also, after dealing with Avid for 10 years, I'm all for telling people to look into Ableton for live playback. Avid is such a pain. Especially when your drop over $50k on their audio consoles and they still expect you to pay $120 to just talk to a human for tech support! Such BS!

Resolume also has native support for Ableton Link. It all depends on what you're comfortable with though, and how much money you've already invested into a playback system ;)
Just thought I'd give you my 2 cents

Basically what Arvol said.
Launch SMPTE synced clip in Resolume via midi, (or have one long rendering in a single clip)
and play SMPTE audio tracks in ProTools to Resolume to sync the video to your track.

WordClock is not what you are looking for. It is used to sync hardware clocks not application playback.

Regarding scrubbing to the middle of a track, if you have the clip playing in Resolume then the SMPTE track will take care of the positioning.
To have the clip playing while you jump to the middle of another song, you could place multiple midi notes to launch the same clip, for example every 10 seconds. That should be good enough during rehearsals, I don't think relaunching an SMPTE synced clip will cause any issues.
You could do with one long note if PT sends a note on when you jump into the middle of a note, but I don't know how PT behaves in this regard..

All Resolume 6 licenses come with +1 backup, so yes, you can use the same key on your show machine and your editor at the same time.https://resolume.com/support/en/registering#1-backup
