I've been reading about the VJ thing and wow It sounds like something I'd like to get into (I'm an Avid editor with a big interest in After Effects and assorted effects plug-ins).

I have pentium 4 notebook with a GE Force effects graphics card (...and a nice set of logitech speakers) which is ok for what I do...but for VJ-ing I guess I'm going to need various other equipment.

Could any of you good people give me a few clues as to where to go from here onwards (i.e. first purchase, what to buy what not to buy etc)

Download resolume, render some clips, play some tunes and VJ!

What you've got will run resolume as is, but you'd get better performance with an external firewire drive for clips (essential really), or if you can two laptops with resolume and a hardware mixer etc etc...

Most VJ softs have fully functioning trials, either time limited or watermarked so try them out. I say Resolume is best PC software mixer but you may also want to try Flowmotion or Archaos for your PC. They all work in fundamentally different ways as you'll see, Res is the most intuitive tho.
