Hi all,

Ive recently started using resolume for doing Visuals at dance nights that myself and some friends put on. I love the software and can really see myself getting into the VJ seen.

I am still very much a novice with the software and would like some advice on the audio analyzer section if anyone fancy's helping a noob.

I fully understand that Reolume does not support audio playback and that the audio analyzer uses the audio signal from the line on your sound card. I also undertsnad that you can use the line in signal to drive effects parameters and playback heads etc.

What I would like if possible is some quick pointers on linking the audio analyzer to layers that are playing and how to configure it to drive the clips. I know I will have to configure the analyser and the gain levels for it to work, I just want to know how to link the analyser to the clips if you see what I mean.

I know it's been asked before in many posts on here but I can't seem to find any clear, idiots guide tutorials or instructions. Apologies for bringing up the subject again, any pointers that you experts could give would be greatly appreciated.

I think resolume is preaty intuitive, I started using it right away ( read the tutorial when I was bored ). Anyway, there IS a tutorial, and I think bart and edwin should spent their time no resolume itself, not on writing more complex tutorials. This one is just fine.

Thanks the reply sky, I didn't realise there was a tutorial, if I had seen one I wouldn't of asked. Could you point me in the right direction?

Audio analysis

Resolume can do full 18 band (Left 9 and Right 9) FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation) audio analysis to make various parameters bounce to the music. Audio analysis can be used to drive effect parameters or automatically scratch a video to the beat.

The full audio analysis data is also available for scripting in flash files. This enables you to build advanced audio visualizations in flash.

The FFT data is split to Low, Mid and High. This makes it easy to quickly select the desired band range when linking effect parameters to the audio. Each band range can be fine-tuned when desired by selecting which band the low mid or high actually uses. Default the Low range represents the average of bands 1 to 30 on the left and right audio channel. The Mid is the average of band 3 to 6 and the High is 7 to 9 by default.

The Gain is used to multiply the data with a factor to increase or decrease the values. The Fall makes the values bounce more or less aggressive. With a low Fall the audio values slowly slide down until a higher value in the audio makes is bounce up again.

Thanks Sky, I have read the description previously. I understand all that, what I want to know is how to link the audio analyser to one of the 3 individual layers so it actually starts driving the clip or flash animation, and what sliders / settings i need to configure to do that. Does that make sense? Sorry if I'm being thick, I'm not trying to waste your time.

everyone uses it differently. You've just got to experiment and make it work for you. Personally, I have a mixer with 5 band eq before it even goes into my input to give me better control of what i'm using to mix with. I use it differently for different things - be it video position control or effect driving. Eq and fall off all need to be tweaked to your preference. Just start playing - practice makes perfect.

Anyway, what you want is to bind opacity slider to audio, that wil make a clip show up when there is sound
