hi

i am searching for the perfect codec for long clips, for example a big mix about a few minuets.
until now i used mpg1 and i like it. but resolume has problems with loading it since re 2. another problem with mpg1 is, that i want to use also the sound and other vj programms dont play the sound right.
indeo 5.1 and motionjpg : the result is to big!
i tryed sorenson 3 pro, which are pretty small and good looking files, other programms like it, resolume not.

i think it must be a quicktime codec, especially if you want to use other programms. many dont like windows codecs.

so what to do ?

any ideas ? what do you use ?

you'll have to live with the large file sizes if you want to do this. That's part of having a file in a medium you can play with! I have a dedicated raid array of 160GB purely for resolume, and i'll tell you, there's at least 100 clips that are in the 200-400MB size. It's just a fact you have to deal with - btw i still have over 80 gigs free

Also, remember that unless you have a need to 'scratch' the clip or play it in reverse -- presumably not too likely, given a 5+ minute length-- in Indeo you don't need to set a keyframe for every frame. Reducing the frequency of keyframes -- and it's been a while since I used Indeo, so I don't remember what an optimum ratio would be -- can greatly reduce the size of the clip.
