How much of Resolume's performance is based on the CPU and how much is based on the video card? I'm about to buy a new Sager laptop with an ATI Radeon 9000 in it just for better video performance, but I'm wondering if this will make Resolume any smoother at higher resolutions?

BTW: Great product, guys! I can't wait for the next version. [please make actionscript work in swf files!]

hi, I'm pretty new to vjing and i'm trying out the demo of resolume. I tried resolume on a desktop computer with an ati radeon chipset based card (not manufactured by ati). It worked really bad on it, even worse than my pc with an old pci card + an ati all in wonder radeon agp card.
It may be due to bad configuration of the hardware but i couldn't get anything decent out of the ati radeon 9000. Right now I'm on the seek for a good video card, anyone have anything to suggest? I would like it to have composite input and maybe tv antenna. I'm afraid a digital input would push the price too high for my wallet!
any suggestions very wellcome
bye

try matrox e G450 with video input or try a matrox G450 with a pci capture card or a Dazzle video adaptator ( check vjcentral for reviews )

you say the performance was bad, but what resolution were you running the 2nd monitor full screen at?

even on a cheesy video card I can get a 320 x 240 to run like it's greased...

I only want to be able to do 640x480...

Hey All

had a short test session today with a Leadtek GeForce4 4600 Ultra (video in+out).
It ran 3 layers of 640x480 cinepak quicktimes OK, slowed down a bit when i put effects on all channels though.
I'd say next generation cards will be the bizness for running all 640x480 clips (bring on AGP8x!!)

What type of setup are you running 640x480 on?? I tried the first two releases of resolume on my 1ghz laptop with 256meg ram and was unable to play 80% cinepacks (640x480) anywhere near 30fps.. I was assumming it was HD speed.. and when I did try a firewire drive at one specific gig it seemed to work better.. I'm considering try resolume again as it seemed to be very keen to what I need.. however I would like to play it off a laptop.. is the new ver that much better that ill be able to play 640x480*30fps??

the new (beta) version is a lot faster than previous versions, but i think it will slow down running 640x480 clips on all layers with effects using current hardware.
For myself, i use 320x240 avi's, flash, and stills, with a matrox g450eTV. it runs really well, and i don't need a second monitor to preview the output as i can see it in the resolume interface window.
We're about to get a new shuttle form-factor PC (very small), and keep the matrox in it for a while longer.
I'm guessing the next generation of graphics cards (geforce5 or equivalent) using the 8x AGP bus will really start to run resolume better at higher resolutions, but for now 320x240 is fine with me, looks fine in the mix, - and don't forget -

PS.

you need a fast hard drive setup no matter what res/configuration you are using Resolume at.
