Wire+Resolume: How input/feed 2 separate textures into a custom Wire patch

This question may be technically ill posed, but maybe you have an idea how to achieve it.
I want to be able to blend 2 textures fed from Resolume into a Wire patch from within a clip channel, so that I can use the full clip render facility (and maintain highest quality, with ProRes export). AFAIK it only sees one the one clip texture. You can have more than Texture In, but it seems to only see that one clip texture.
I realise that you can of course easily combine using layers, but then I can't use clip render; layer render would be very nice!
Example: I have a library of nice randomly driven gradient resource generated using Wire. I want to be able to combine them in Resolume quickly (choose a gradient to match a scene) then clip render.
My current workaround is to use the Video Player in a custom Wire patch set as an "effect" patch, with it's play inlet triggered by Transport Play. I then just feed in the clip texture from Resolume and layer them in Wire. But it's tedious to have to have a Wire patch for every desired gradient.
I can have a Wire patch with many gradient Video Players and use a Switch with Int In to choose which one to play (which one to use as background), it's slightly better, but still not ideal.
Does it make sense to ask for 2 texture inlets (where one is not the active clip texture)? Not sure how the 2nd one (the gradient one) would be chosen, but I'd like to somehow have all the gradients lined up in Resolume as clips and choose one as the background for the main scene (just as one can in Resolume).
This is mostly just a workaround for the fact that only clip seems to support full render; it's not about live VJing.
