Audio has big latency

We use audio triggering in Resolume. We recieve audio from the DJ and loop it thru our videomixer to our Laptops.
Our mixer has an equalizer and displays the incoming audio correctly (no latency). But resolume displays the incoming audio with a latency of approximatly 500 milliseconds (0.5 second).
Our laptops both have a Sigmatel onboard audio card.
One laptop has a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 1 Gb Ram and a Ati 9600 (dell Inspirion 9100).
The other is a Pentium M 1.6 Ghz with 512 Mb ram and a Ati X300 (dell Inspirion 9300).
Both running XP SP2 dedicated for Resolume
Is it adviseable to buy a real Soundcard like a Audigy or is it a Resolume problem (software issue).
If you need more info regarding this issue please ask.
