Font as a stencil layer?

I'd like to create an effect where the font of a title was in essence a stencil layer on top of another video loop underneath. The font layer would mask everything outside of the edges of the lettering, while allowing the video layer "beneath" it to show within the borders of the letters.

If this is possible, can someone please share a step-by-step?

Thanks in advance!

Patrick

Like this, but using Resolume Avenue instead of html

Layer Masking mode is what you're looking for: https://resolume.com/support/en/layers#mask-layer

I gave this a try, but was unsuccessful.

I created a simple logo video which has a black background and white lettering with 108 point, bold font.

In my Resolume Composition, I have 4 layers to play with. I have tried various positions for where to put the logo video. I have tried it in layer 4, I have tried it in layer 3, I have tried it in layer 2.

I have tried positioning the video that I would like to show through the white logo letters in either the layer above or the layer below the logo video. I have tried setting the mask on the logo video layer or the background video layer.

No matter what combination I apply, I've failed to get the background video to only show through the white letters of my logo.

Could you share a screenshot of how you have the layers set up?

Zoltan,

I went out and watched the Resolume Classroom #3 video and learned that the "Multiply" blend mode was the solution.

Works great!

Thanks for your patience and willingness to help!

If you're a wire user, this would be an FX you could use:

Code: Select all

--begin-wire-patch--

you also could simply create your logo with transparent letters saved in a PNG.
