controling a specific effect slot with midi

Hi,

Is there a way to control a specific effect slot with midi? And apply the fxs controlled only by a specific midi source?

What I need to do is receive midi info from other computer that's running Ableton Live, but this info should affect only one effect slot, so that I can use the other slots by myself.

The problem is that I receive the info, but when I click on the other slot to put the effects by hand, the midi starts changing the new slot.

The way I found to solve this was ableton send a midi signal to change to slot1, apply the fx and than another note to change to slot2. It works, but not perfectly, because many times the effects get mixed or not applied.

So. Anyone knows if this can be done? Or, if not, could this be done in a future version?

in the resolume midi config stuff, you can assign midi to the specsific effects slot

Yes, but is it possible to work with the other 2 slots at the same time resolume is receiving midi signals to change the effects on slot 1?
Because ableton will be sending a midi loop to change the effects many times per second (on slot 1).

Hi 1mpar,
you can specify midi control messages for each of the individual parameters of each effect slot. So yes you can do that.
But i know when sending a lot of messages the computers get overloaded with messages. So don't overdo it.

Yes, but can I turn on and off any effect of a single slot with midi while I apply other effects on the other slots manually?
The parameters of the fxs are assigned to individual midi notes, but the fxs themselves I don't know if I can send them to a specific slot using midi (and keep using the other 2).

if you RMB click an effect you can assign it a midi note, but i think it will only go to the active clip, you cant set it to a layer.

You cannot assig a midi note to an effect so that it directly loads in the preffered effect slot. You first have to select an effect slot and then trigger the effect. We created midi shortcuts for selecting the active effect slot. So trigger the midi note for selecting the effect slot and then trigger the midi note for the effect.

That's what I'm doing Edwin. The midi sends a note to select the slot, sends the fx note, than another note to select the other slot for me to use manually. But I was thinking that could be a single parameter to make both things (select the slot and set the effect).
Because I'd like to, for example, keep controling an effect parameter on slot 2 while the midi changes the fx of slot 1.

So I guess it's not possible :(

But thanks anyway. I'll try to find a way.

HI 1impar,
Hmmm... i know see what you mean.
So yes it's not possible to do it an elegant way. We''ll see wether we can make this more flexible.
