How do I Create a Simple Video Transition

Post by JDubs9000 »

Hello,

Very new to Resolume but not media servers in general.

I would like to do a simple task but cannot figure it out. I have custom 2 second prores files with alpha that I want to use as a transition between clips. The whole frame is covered up at the 1 second mark at which point I would like to go to the next column, or however it needs to work.

I understand transition phase, but that seems to only work with effects. Is there a way to make a prores file an effect?

I have layer one with my background videos, layer two has the transition video. How do I make this work correctly? None of the blend modes seem to work as I expect, If set it to alpha, its very dim, I want it to be completely opaque when it plays, not added or other wise blended.

Please help.

I figured out how to make a video an effect in Wire with a texture input for the back ground layer and opacities assigned to transition phase but it still crossfades even with an envelop propping up the opacity. This isn't a solution because the moment I need to add in some text, it sits on top of the transition video in the wire on the background layer.

All i want is to delay the transition one second then do a hard cut to the next column while a video plays on top of it.

I dont understand it 100% but i think what you are looking for is autopilot? Crop the first file to the point you want to switch, set autopilot to "play next clip" and transition to 0.

then it will cut to the next video

I'm also new to Wire. I think it has quite a few interesting features. Is there an online course on how to use it?

I'm trying to complete a straightforward activity but am having trouble. I want to use 2 second custom prores files with alpha as a transition between clips. At one second, the entire frame is obscured; at that point, I would like to go on to the next column, or whatever else is necessary.

Wire can make transitions/mixers where you can embed files and play them.
The patch receives the transition phase as float input. With that you can start playing your prores file, mix it on top of the outgoing texture, then switch to the incoming texture while the embedded file is fully opaque, and then fade it out.

Hello, new to Wire, long time Arena user, but been playing with Wire for a few days now.
I need the exact type of functionality that the OP of this thread listed for transitions, as I have themed Alpha keyed transition stinger videos that I need to use as transitions between video playback/clips in Arena.

For the life of me, with all the different node combinations of config in Wire, I cannot seem to achieve what has been mentioned here. I've come close, but cannot get the media/texture that I am transitioning to start at the frame whiteout point of the stinger video. The stinger/alpha transition video is 2 seconds long, the frame whiteout and/or transition point is 1 second in. Is there anyway anyone can lay out the recipe for this particular function and or at least list the necessary nodes?

Arena is close to being the perfect media server and video playback engine for me but unless I can make this request work, I still have to use another video playback application that supports alpha element or "stinger" transitions and feed it into Arena which is not really ideal as that flow can add lag into the production.

Thanks!

Replace the video / player in this patch with your file and save as mixer
