stagnate, stumble, faltering, jerking / judder when loading video previews in the background

Hi there,

We have problems with stuttering videos, most of the time when loading a preview video in the background. The length or size of the video is irrelevant. This happens every 20 minutes to half an hour.

Of course all Videos are converted with DX3 (Alley 7)
Our GPU output goes to a custom mapped 4k LED screen which is using the advanced mapping output of Arena (the arrangement looks approximately like this: << >>)

- most recent Arena 7 version
- AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core 3.7GHz (64bit)
- 32GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
- We run about 3-6 4k videos at a time. and use a Add50 or multiply blend mode.

I experience it mostly when I load a video into the preview in the background. The videos are already on the deck and are not loaded from the browser window, if that can make a difference.
The faltering, jerking, which spans about 10 to 20 seconds (which is A LOT OF TIME!! when doing live shows), disappears after that time span. Then everything runs smoothly again....

What can cause this issue?
  • do we need more RAM?
  • Is the GPU too low?
  • Do we need to tweak some settings somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you in advance

Hard to say,
If you check Show display info in the output menu, what does the Renderer line say on the ouptut?

You could try changing the DMA textures in the Resolume video preferences, from on to off, or off to on maybe that would help a bit.

Power profiles all set to high performance, no sleep for devices?
