Groups in Avenue

500 Euro is a ridiculous amount to pay if the only feature in Arena that I would find useful is Groups, especially for two licenses (laptop and desktop). Is there any way this feature can be added to Avenue?

You can find the complete list of differences here:

There might be something else you find useful

All of those other features appear to be for folks who VJ shows, especially multi-projector shows, thus why it is called Arena. Right? They probably easily pay for the license with one show.
The only feature on there that I could see useful in my little modest experimental hobby one-projector projects is Groups, really. But that's just way too much money for that one feature.
It's just a little odd to me: You have Avenue for us regular folk and you have Arena for the VJ doing big shows. And there is this one feature that could be useful to the regular folk but they are priced out of it. I'm sure you all have your reasons for that.

Why do you need a group? As a person who does "BIG" show's I don't even use groups. Some of my shows have up to 8 outputs. Not saying your point isn't valid, just curious what your workflow is and if there might be a better way to approach it without you spending more $$. Wire might even be able to help.

Be able to group layers together and effect only those layers. You can only group one set of layers with Video Routers.

What are you trying to only affect in those layers that's not in the others?

Well, so I'm an audio guy. How I route signals and the architecture I create to route signals helps me be creative. Without getting into minutiae, my music making setup is extremely complicated in terms of design, but it allows me to turn everything on and be making creative new and complete music in a couple minutes: Drums, guitars, synths, samples, vocals, it's all here ready to go and be layered.
There have been several times while I've been experimenting with, I guess you could say, generative visuals to my most recent album where I've wished I had Groups. I've been enjoying experiment with Video Routers like setting up 20 columns with each having a different color scheme and using midi to move forward to the next scheme, or different textures etc.
This morning I awoke thinking about how I'd like to remove the effects I've been experimenting with on individual clips and route these effects using video routers instead. It might help with some of these memory issues I've been having. Maybe, I don't know, worth trying. But I'm also thinking in terms of, you know, these layers are the clips I'm using and these layers are the effects I'm experimenting with, etc..
But it would be nice to have three or more layers of these Video Routed effects from one layer of clips and that would be a Group. And then have another set under that one and start layering different groups on top of each other. But I can't do this without Groups. Video Routers only have two options: A particular layer or all the layers below it. If we could select multiple particular layers for a Video Router, that would solve this, but can't do that either.
At one point I thought I would be clever and stack some layers at the bottom into a Video Router then put a black screen layer on top of that and then another set of layers into a Video Router, basically rigging my own groups. Didn't work, don't recall why. Anyway.
Don't know if I explained itparticularly well. But bottom line, I have many times thought Groups would be a useful feature but I'm not paying a $1000 euro for this one feature. I've not used slices or multiple outputs or any of the other things that are Arena features. Maybe one day but for now, I'm making no money from this, just trying to create some interesting visuals for my music and for me, a lot of that is routing, grouping and layering.
