Conversion issues

Hi there!
I'm new to Resolume and I like what I see so far. The major problem is, like the subject line says, I have conversion issues. I'm using SUPER, a front end for ffmpeg.
SUPER is pretty flexible. The problem is finding a conversion setting good enough for what I need. Right now, every file I convert is rejected by Resolume.
I have a couple of very cool files (from Khronos Project) that I'd like to include in Resolume. Most of them are 720*480 and play at slightly more than 30fps from wmv format.
I just got into this VJ business and I know that there are a lot of issues to deal with in video. I'd either like a good primer on the issues I need to learn or answers to the following questions.
1) What is the maximum size of video?
2) Is there a minimum?
3) What is the best aspect ration?
4) What is the best fps?
5) What's a good Kbps for AVI? For MJPEG? For Mov?
6) What application fo you use to convert files between formats?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
