Midi Mapping question- evolution x session

Hello all,
I am a bit new in mapping midi to software and EVOLUTION's X SESSION is the first midi controller I just bought. I originally bought to work it under Grid Pro, works flawlessly with Grid Pro but when it comes to resolume I am bit stuck concerning the 10 buttons on the controller.
In resolume 2.3, on the midi mapping, under preferences, I can assign my knobs and the fader to "controllers"; but for "other notes" I cannot assign the buttons for say changing effects and transparency filters. In short, only knobs and faders work under controllers but the notes section is not assignable to the buttons on the x session. Is there a fix for this ? Or do I only have the chance of using a midi keyboard for assigning buttons or keys to "notes" ?
Thanks.
