Hello comunnity

Did my last VJ gig with my macbook pro i7 2.66 from 2017 16gb RAM , all my loops are converted to DXV 1080p.

I had two gigs yesterday, one with 2 projectors and a splitter via hdmi, and another one with a LED Wall via HDMI.

Ive been reading that this specific model of macbbok, sometimes heats up a lot, and the processor slows down a little bit. I bought a new macbook m3 pro 36gb ram which will be my main laptop, and im going to use the old macbook just for small jobs.

I just wanted to find out, why this macbook gets really slow sometimes working with multiple projectors, and for the LED screen works perfectly 3 layers 80/90 fps and for the projectors i get 35 fps. When i unplug the hdmi adaptor it works well.

Its a huge difference in terms of how you perform, and how the VJ set goes.

I see that Resolume doesnt like big files even with DXV 3/4gb, its complicated with these specs, and having many decks like i do, is even worst. Even the dock bar slows down.

Anyone with the same problem?

Hey outside observer here, with 30 years in IT. 16GB of RAM is not much for what you're doing there. For every deck you add, all of the clips in them have information: thumbnails, effects/settings, etc, that get stored in memory. So your computer is almost certainly swapping to disk to manage the limited memory space in RAM, and disk access is much, much slower than RAM.

With regards to projectors vs LEDs, I would guess that the resolution, colour depth/bitrate, etc. of the LED screens you were using were significantly lower than those specs on the projectors you were using. Therefore the LED screens would need less information to be held in RAM and rendered, so there would be less swapping to disk to manage the memory requirements of the computer's total workload, thus, it runs faster. More RAM is always better.

Thank you for all the information.

I have a lot of decks with DXV Clips, and running trough a T7 SSD Disk, might be the issues.

Did the change to the M3 Pro 36GB of RAM and nothing compared to the i7.

I was having trouble with an i7 2.66, 16Gb ram from 2017.

The HDMI Splitter is one with 4 outputs and 1 input froma amazon.
