crashes using USB MIDI + capture

I was trying to experiment yesterday with a live cam.
Apart from huge drop in performance (about 50% in fps) there were two issues:
- MIDI controller much less responsive, video capture friezes
- frequent crashes / freezes - bot
I use acer 5024 WLMi - Turion M-34 - 2 Ghz 1.25 GB RAM
MIDI - Alesis Photon X25 with audio input - USB 2.0
generic USB 2081 tv-box device (called batman II =] ) - USB2.0
this situation renders MIDI + audio + vid capture unusable
And I like
is it because of the data overload on USB? I use different ports, but they do connect to one chip in the end?
Would using firewire capture help? (they say it takes a lot of processing power away)
is it the case of single core processor, overtaken by resolume, so no processing power left for video capture and MIDI? When I used MIDI OX before, it did tend to create big delay too.
would the dual core help in this situation? Ill test it on my x2 - MIDI OX works much better on this other machine.
