is it a memory problem???

still at the testing period. i use Thinkpad R60 1.83 dual core 512MB memory 667Mhz + 128MB ATI dedicated video card and external HD. the vj software is RESOLUM.

when i load a clip to the screen it freezes for 1 sec. and then it runs o.k
if all 3 layers are working and i add few effects then it can freeze for 2 sec.
i think that it's a memory problem and i'm thinking to upgrade to 1GB memory.
first of all- will this do? is that the problem? low memory?

another thing- can i install 2.4 and 2.3 on the same laptop? it won't collide?
i have posted this one also in vjcentral forum see the link

hi poki,
we don't promote using quicktime in resolume. The latest version of quicktime causes slow triggering of clips in resolume. We support Quicktime but we recommend using vfw avi's.
I don't think the amount of memory is an issue. But upgrading to 1gb sounds like a good idea anyway.

Cheers

This may explain a few issues.

I started to use quicktime coded MJPEG/B lately and noticed similar problems with quite long freezes.

Maybe it wasn't MIDI then?

your right on this one edwin. i used quicktime photojpeg 320x240 25fps and i converted few clips just to check how RESOLUM reacts and i found it- its a codec problem

Indeo 5.1 29.97fps is the answer for me

i'll try another thing before ill start converting all my clips- i'll try instaling older version of quicktime maybe it'll save me the weekend

hi poki,
some people said that they had good experiences with the quicktime alternative codec. I don't know exactly how it works but it means that you don't have to convert anything.
Search for quicktime alternative or check the following link:

the good friends at vjcentral linked me to this one:http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideomjpeg.htm

it's a trial version but until now i got better results then with Indeo 5.1

edwin, i'm taking your advise and i'm experimanting with this mjpeg codec and indeo 5.1 before i start converting all my clips- i'll experimnt at this weekend and i'll post my results

by the way, i uninstalled the new quicktime and installed v.6 but still there are lags when i trigger the clips

i'm working with vegas 6.0b- when i render to cinepak the clip comes out a bit pixeled. i used Gspot to see the codec that was used for the demofootge in resolum 2.4 and i rendered the same specs in vegas but i cant get a clean picture
