Song-Videoclip Perfect Sync

Hi guys,
I'm new to the world of VJing and Resolume, and I'm gradually becoming more passionate about it. I apologize if this question seems basic to some of you, but I'm still learning!
I recently watched a VJ at a club who was using Arena to sync music videos (e.g., YouTube music videoclips) perfectly with the corresponding song of the DJ set. However, I personally checked, and I’m 100% sure they weren’t using any direct link between the DJ setup and the VJ booth, no pioneer Pro DJ Link, no SMPTE, nothing like that.
This made me wonder: how is this synchronization achieved so precisely? My guess is that the VJ sets cue points (e.g., where the vocal starts) and somehow manually aligns the video with the DJ's audio output in real-time. Could that be the case? Or is there another technique that I’m missing?
Again, sorry if this is a basic question, but as I mentioned, I’m new to this and eager to learn. Thanks in advance for your help!

No worries, you should always ask. This could have been done in quite a few different ways. The easiest one if you have a application like Pulse that automatically tracks the beats and syncs Arena to the beat. And you make sure all your clips are set to BPM everything will already be in sync really quickly.. then you can also use beat snap so you can make sure that a clip only comes in as a certain beat and you can now combine it with a autopilot set to BPM. This way it is quite easy to get synchronize looking video, and if you than also set up some cue points and map the beat looper to some buttons you could make a very nice show, that would be really beat oriented. I hope this helps you out. Don't hesitate to ask questions that's why the community is here.

PS. And one thing that's always good to keep in mind is that your brain will always look for synchronization. Even if things are not synchronized your brain will still see connections between images and sound.

Maybe they played the audio also from Resolume?
Otherwise it sounds like a lot of work.

No, I was next to the DJ during the whole evening and the music was played by him

I'd say they have used Pioneer or Denon sync then.
You would not be able to keep video and audio in sync from two different sources unless there is tight sync, especially with tempo controls DJs usually use.

Hi!
I actually asked the VJ from that club, and he told me that he does the synchronization manually. He adjusts the clip by moving it slightly forward or backward and by tweaking the playback speed until it matches the track.
