External monitor problem with laptop

Post by weirdworld »

Hi all,

I'm having trouble with my setup. Using a Sony VAIO VGN-FS295 laptop with NVIDIA GeForce Go 2600 graphics. I'm attempting to output to a monitor attached to the VGA output. Unfortunately the laptop is treating the external monitor as the main monitor and so I get the Resolme deck on the external monitor and the fullscreen output on the laptop monitor. I need it the other way round! This happens despite setting the laptop monitor as the 'primary monitor'.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers,

ww

First make sure you have your dual monitor setup correctly in Windows. To do this open the advanced tab on the Displays control panel.

Even is your laptop is being a Mr. SillyHead, you should be able to just change the settings in Resolume to switch the screens.

Some laptops, when you plug the external connection before turn them on, they treat external as primary.... (at least mine does that)

So plug the external monitor after your laptop is on and windows is loaded.

Do you have video in/out? If you do try to plug it like that and see if you have the same problem. If you have most probably your graphic card's driver is messed. Try updating it or re-installing it. I had various quirks with some versions of drivers (eg. I could not change bit depth on secondary display to be more than 8bit without killing the system... When I uninstall and upgraded drivers everything was ok...)
