Spout 2.7+ Freezes Computer

I recently tried to download the newest version of Spout: Spout 2.007.017 and ran into what I consider a pretty heavy issue.
Anytime I turn on the Spout Texture Sharing on Resolume to output my composition to OBS (or any other program), my entire computer freezes in a matter of seconds.
The screen is visible, but my mouse allows no movement, and my keyboard shortcuts also don't work (ctrl + alt + del).
I had to download an older version of Spout to get this to work (2.006). I didn't try with any of the other 2.007.xxx versions, I might give it a shot if I have some time this week.
Part of me thinks it's the Directx9 option that is possible to disable on 2.006, but I wasn't able to do so on 2.007 because the GUI is all smushed together on my end. I tried via the command line tool, but it didn't have any options to disable Directx9 through there.
The Spout 2.006 GUI is nice, visible, and has the option to turn off Directx9, so that to me seems to be where we might begin some checks.
Anyway, thought this would help others out in the near future - or if someone has figured out a solution to this, please let me know!
I want to take advantage of more Spout Senders in the latest version. Currently I only have access to 64 senders - plenty for now - but I'll eventually want to expand
