we use a shuttleX PC for live mixing. It runs win2k, has photoshop, flash, freehand, and premiere for on the fly work if needed. It has pretty much no other software, and is rock solid as a live machine.
We often do gigs from 10/11pm til about 6/7am and the machine has never crashed (yes, never!).
I'm not an advocate for windows at all, but if you have a decent, dedicated PC setup that you don't change or put any unnecessary apps on, there's no reason why it shouldn't be stable.
Regardless, i'm def. a fan of opensource and if anyone makes a linux version, i'll definitely check it out.
