I was thinking of using some footage from DVD and films in which I own that are contempory and appealing to people at the moment. One thing I wanted to ask though is it ok to use DVD / film content within my sets or will this be infringing on any copyright?

I was under the impression that if I owned the real copy of the DVD and I am covered under a Creative commons licence for doing this and it s OK.

I just wanted to see if anyone has done this already or if anyone is using content from movies in their sets?.

Any help would be great with this.

This is a hotly debated issue. Technically you are infringing on copywrites, but it seems to be very safe to do so. The MPAA seems only concerned with people bootleging entire movies. New Line Cinema hired Addictive Tv, who are known for AV remixes of Hollywood movies, to make a series of movie trailors. So, it seems like the industry is not threatened by this type of sampling. Somebody will probably argue with me about this point. Sampling has become a touchy subject on the vjforums.com, always sure to spark a long debate.
