No TV-Out on the new MacBooks

The new MacBooks look amazing:

We're really happy that they upgraded the graphics chip to NVIDIA 9400M (& 9600M GT on the Pro) as that should run Resolume 3 just fine (allthough we have not tried it yet).

But there is no s-video or composite output anymore! Only DVI or VGA! I really hope Apple will make an adapter for TV-Out soon because this is essential for VJs.

Well, it looks like you have to get the new Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter (US$29) and attach your current DVI-to-S-Video/Composite adapter. I'm sure they'll come out with a DisplayPort-to-Video adapter in the near future because it's a very common accessory.

Hi guys,
yes, the new MacBooks look perfect. Now they seem to have what I was always missing: reasonable graphics power. So I guess now they should be powerful enough to run resolume at a decent framerate.

If anyone of you guys gets his/her hands on one of those shiny new boxes, please be so kind and post your experiences with resolume3. I think I'll buy one if everything works fine.

Thx, best regards,

Florian.

No that does Mini-VGA to Composite/S-Video but what you need is Mini-DisplayPort to Composite/S-Video.

Hi everyone,

I went to my local Mac dealer today, and he had an answer on this issue that I did not really like. He told me, that he believes as there is no adapter to Composite/S-Video at the moment there won't be any in the future as well.

I do not know how reliable his statement is but at least he clearly stated that I should not rely on Apple releasing such an adapter in the future.

Another thing is that I do not beleive that it is possible to chain adapters mini displayport -> dvi -> s-video because normaly the graphics card detects if you connect an adapter for analog video out and than it will switch to a totally different video signal! So if you connect an adapter to DVI in the first place there will be no analog signal reaching your second adapter to S-Video in the chain. So the only solution I see at the moment is to go for an adapter to VGA and the connect a scanline converter. Correct me if I am wrong (I would be happy).

Cheers,

Florian.

By the way, the new MAcBooks look even better in real live than on the videos/pictures.

i am not sure, if this is any help. this is also just "some guy" writing what he thinks about the problem.
i would be happy, if someone can post an official statement. i am kinda confused..... i mean, how much signal would you lose by chaining adapters (if that is possible at all)??

Whats a guy to do?

I know it's a dilemma, but i,m sure the tv-out problem will be fixed by a 3rd party extension ... something.

Or you can buy a cheap refurbished MBP now:
