Problem with clip speed

HI all.
Can anyone help me with a small problem?
In clip properties with the clip set to it's own timeline the clip speed timeline appears, the play-head on the timeline can be asigned to a midi controller, so far so good. My question is how can I change its scale? the scale runs from (0 - 10) 1 being normal playback speed, when this is assigned to a rotary control (if you can imagine a knob with devisions between 0 - 10 I'm left with only one tenth of the knobs rotation for controling minus speed but nine tenths of the knobs rotation controling forward speed.
This leaves me virtually no control when slowing clip speeds down and worse still I can not accuratly hit 1 (normal playback speed) when using a midi controller because of the scale used in the timeline.
Whats the workaround here, am I missing something?
