codec of the videos

i am having a problem experimenting the demo version. I load my videos to the panel but the video don't work, only if they have audio. i will not install new codec because i think its absurde that if i upgrade to this new version i have to convert about 3000 videos to this format. It will be better if you maintain the same format of the resolume 2.4 that any kind of videos were playable. I think the main problem here, is that now resolume have to be for audio too, so now all of us have to convert our videos????? if this maintain i think the most of the vjs won't upgrade to this new version, i have an head aik creating new videos because of the codecs, the videos just don't work, only with some formats of divx. But what about my other 3000 videos? If you have the solution please give me an answer or i will continue to use the older version oor change to modul8. I think this version is the best software for vjs for the moment but you should remember that not all the vjs work with audio.
Waiting for the solution urgent...

Regards from Portugal

Randolph, your mistaken if you think your video has to contain audio. That's just not true. Resolume Avenue can perfectly be used without audio, there is even an option in the View menu that hides all audio controls.
Anyway, could you give some more info on what codec you use and maybe send us a sample so we can see what's wrong? send it to mail(AT)resolume.com.
Please don't use DIVX files for vjing, that's really not the format you should be using. Use the Indeo or an MJPEG codec for best results.

thanks for answering.

i know i dont have to use audio, my only problem is that all my videos(the older ones) are in avi (in divx or xvid) and some of them just don't play. i will send you a sample for you.

xvid and divx files arent realy suitable for vjing in any software realy due to the way they compress and decompress. they "might" work but its advisable to use a different format. try using a batch convertor to re-encode all of them, livid offer a free one thats quite good. http://www.lividinstruments.com/software_batch.php

having all of your videos in the same format will also make the software run a bit smoother as it wont have to keep accessing different conversion / compression codecs.

tks for the link. i sent a loop to the resolume mail so anyone can tell what is the problem of that codec. in older versions of resolume they work quite fine but in this new version i can't play them.

Thank you for sending us your video, it is using the DV codec which is not suitable vof VJ-ing. Please render your video with the Cinepak or Mjpeg codec.

More info in the Preparing Media chapter in our manual:

similar problem here

hey guys,

I have quite a similar problem:

I encode the clips using After Effects and Indeo 5.1 Codec.
I unchecked all the boxes in the render window, turned alpha off (direct without mask).
Checked Keyframe every single frame and scalable box (sub menu), quality 100%.
The clip is 1024 by 576 px (I tried different resolutions by the way).

When I try to open the clip in resolume it gives me nothing but this:
"opening file_source failed: OPEN_FILE_SOURCE_FAILED"

cinepak and motion jpeg (mov) are just fine.

And before anyone tells me to buy a codec:
I won't ;)!

Any idea? I would be sad to see resolume 3 not eating clips it used to back in 2.

best

Hi,

I've been using Resolume 2 for about 2 years now, with an mjpeg codec by Matrox. It has worked brillantly! Though now Resolume 3 doesn't open any of the files for me.

Since the codec is mjpeg, I don't understand why it doesn't work. is it possible to trick resolume 3 into working with this mjpeg codec? I have 24,000 loops created in that format!

If I do have to reconvert all of them, does anyone know of a good batch convertor that will automatically render the new files in the same directory structure I have now, on a different hard drive?

Thanks!
