it realy depends on your vjing style,,, i have my 6 - 10 videos of one specific subject,,, let say water/nature
then i have another group urban/city , and so...
i drag the clips that i will be using during 3 tracks more or less, and i play a lot with those videos, and with fxs.
i set up my videos, and usualy rather than swiching videos i have 2 o 3 videos on the same file and i play a lot with the in/out loops, that why i have it assing.
i saw vjs using akai24, akai 40, nanocontrollers, iphone touch osc and wiimotes... there is no rigth o wrong way to do it. Still im verry use to the akai24 , and with akai24+vvvv+midiloopback i have even more things on the akai ( i can use it as a triguerfinguer, i connect a pad to a damper, so acording to the streng of the hit, this will move a virtual midi crossfader assigned in resolume to a layer ). And because i cant use the same controller under res3 and vvvv at the same time, i hook up the akai via usb and a midi-usb cable at the same time )
i remember one day my usb connector of the akai broke, and i didt have time to fix it ( i wasnt on my city, it was a saturday night and i have to be on the club in 1 hour ), so i went to the club tring to mix with my itouch + touch osc ( not so practical but better than mouse/keyboard ), and i saw one of this
http://www.productwiki.com/upload/image ... c24122.jpg , under de djbooth, i ask the guy and they told me " we use that before for the dimmer pack, but today we dont need it ), so i borrow that console + my midi cable and i use that.
if you travel a lot, mdp24 will be a pain because its big and heavy, but is a verry good controller. i have it for 3 years and i broke the usb connector only once because it fall to the florr with the cablle connected and the cable hit the ground firts... way out of waranty
