My son has Resolume installed on his laptop and he has a problem with a background noise, a sort of high pitched buzz or crackle, which happens only when Resolume is running.It changes slightly depending on program activity. He has both the older and latest versions installed and the noise is different for each. As he likes to play music at the same time as rendering video, this is a problem.

Coudl you give some specs of the computer, like OS en hardware.
Is this happeing when he tries to play music from within our software or in a different application.
Did you test if other applications have the same problem?

The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop, Intel Core2duo 1.6Ghz, 256Mb graphics card, 1Gb ram. OS is XP 32 bit. The noise is there even without playing music, just with the program open. There is no noise at desktop or with any other application tried so far, Adobe Premier for instance.

I presume your son uses Resolume 2.41? Then the sound issue can't come from inside the software because it doesn't support audio anyway.

Although I never had this issue with a laptop graphics card/monitor...
Is it possible that the outputresolution (in resolume) is set to a strange aspect ratio/refresh rate?
I can hear strange noises comming from my external monitor if I set it to a wrong resolution/refresh rate combination.

For what i know a laptop/flatscreen is (always) 60Hz. And you can set it best to it's native resolution.

Yes, Resolume 2.41 and the previous version.
Refresh rate is 60Hz, no choice. Selecting different aspect ratio has no effect.

is the problem also when running without the external power supply?
it's normal that laptops have ground loops (not with apple so far i know)...
maybe the ground loops are just noticeable if the cpu usage is fully load and through the power supply just starts making noise when busy!?
tried rendering in premiere with codecs which load the cpu high and played music then?
but if it's that, it should also happen at directx games i think!

maybe the clips in resolume have any audio-track?
resolume2 plays audio if you play a track with audio (don't know if always) but so far i know it won't stop playing and won't run more stable after :p

for me it sounds like a groundloop... maybe through the extra audio and video connections!
you can also get rid of the grounding using a little modified 2pin power cable

Thanks for the replies. We tried using battery only with the external power supply disconnected and the noise is still there, so it is not a ground loop problem. We also tried disconnecting external hard drive. My son says the noise was not always there and came about fairly recently, so he suspects a hardware issue, but it is odd that it only happens with Resolume.

Resolume 2.x cause the CPU to reach 90 to 100%. So it makes the computer work very hard. That's probably the reason why you notice the noise when running Resolume.

Hey guys, I have the exact same issue with a Dell Inspiron e1505...basically the same as the 6400 but sold out of their home PC department. I had the issue running the 2.41 demo and thought it would have been worked out for Avenue. Running the new Avenue demo I get the exact same noise. It seems unlikely that CPU cycles are the culprit, I regularly use Maya, after effects, etc... and never get this crazy noise. Pretty much makes the audio features of Avenue unusable as the sound goes through the line out as well. Audio drivers are up to date. Everything else runs smooth. Just a permanent funky sound while the software runs.

This problem seems to be very hardware specific, do you guys know wether this maybe is a Dell Insipiron issue, maybe there some info on the web about this issue.
