Question about various techniques...

Hey guys, just wondering if you could share some techniques on how you bring in new clips to the output?
I'm a noob so bear with me, can you tell me if I'm doing this wrong?
I have 3 layers in Resolume
Layer 1 has all my clips that I'm playing...
I'll queue up the first video, and let's say I'm feeling on qeueing the next? I'll bring in layer 2 with a crossfader which has a (feedback effect, brightens the screen) load up second video in layer 1 and then crossfade it back to only show the first layer.
Is this the wrong way of doing things? It seems pretty hard to layer videos like this however I'm a noob and I'm not trying to layer videos at the moment.
At my top layer (layer 3) i just have 1 thing that says some text.
Any critique on this setup? Any suggestions for improving the workflow? Any comments on how you transition the next clip?
