I'm in the process of buying a laptop and am unsure wether I should go for the Centrino 1.7GHz or a P4-M 2.6GHz? I have heard conflicting opinions about which is faster. Any of you peeps out there have any sugestions or experience with these chips? Obviously I'll be using Resolume as well as other video/graphics softwrae. Later....

I cannot speak from experience, only from my own research. Both chips are fast. Basically the centrino has more cache memory and the p4-m has more mhz. The last one is more power hungry therefore the lesser choice if you're on the road al lot.
My advice is to take a look at the rest of the specs; video memory, video card and harddisk speed. Those things can be more of a bottleneck than the cpu!

Yeah, definitely look at the other ends of the hardware.
Graphics card being the most important (imho).
Also there are also desktop P4 based laptops out now as well - you can get up to a 2.8ghz (this comes with much less battery power). Some brute power is far more important when rendering effects on video.
You can always replace the harddrive with a bigger and faster one so don't let that dictate to much when it comes to buying

Obvoiusly P4 is much faster, and that is very impotant for video software. If you buy notebook for video work, choose P4. You don't need longer battery life or wireless networking of Centrino for video work.
