hi there
Im just about to enter in to the world of midi control and I am looking to buy a midi device that is portable and affordable, but will give me a good range of knobs, sliders and buttons. Would anyone have any recommendations? I would really like to have more control over the effects and clips that I am playing live.

Also, will using a midi device for effects and layers make it easier to sync/be in time with external sound? (such as the dj or musician)
sorry for coming across like a bit of an idiot, but I feel a bit lost, so any help or pointers would be just wonderful

Maybe the Korg NanoKontrol fits your needs. Small, portable, inexpensive: 9 sliders, 9 knobs, 24 buttons, 4 different "scenes" (presets).

There is an intereasting thread at vjforums.com about MIDI controllers. search for "MIDI controller round up" or something like this.

i just got the akai mpd32 and am looking forward to trying it out.

3 banks of 8 knobs and sliders for a total of 24 each and 4 banks of 16 pads for a total of 64...
