What speed are clips played at when initialy loaded?

Though this question has been posed in another thread, I would like to bring it up again as it has yet to see an answer.

They play much faster then what I render them at when created. It would be useful to know what speed to expect a 30fps avi will play at.

there are some weird little bugs on speed that we are currently trying to find and terminate ...

y this is really frustrating - important that initial playback should be the normal speed
