Ok I have the evolution uc33 controller, all knobs and sliders, I know I can assign playhead control to knobs and control effects sliders via knobs, but I have a question.

To actually trigger fx you need a midi note rather than the data type a knob or slider puts out, is there any way to trigger an fx with a knob?

I already doubt its possible, its just with 33 memory presets it seems wateful to leave so many blank memories.

Anyone ever manage to say map a midi note to a knob? or is it just a case of mouse and keyboard to trigger, and knobs just to control.

This isn't critical, just my midi knowledge is enough to cope but not expert by any means.

Would it be possible say that a future resolume could use controller commands as well as notes for triggering? or am I just showing my restricted midi knowledge?

Someone must have a UC33, says can send out note on info, would this work? Forgive any supidity, midi always opens a can of worms when you delve in

You can program the UC33 numeric pad, to trigger key notes.
Use active channel triggers, connect 'm to the four control buttons to play forward, backward, stop and random.
If you want to trigger the effect, do the same with the numeric keys (0 to 9) or use another bank if you want to use the four bottom controls.

Triggering notes with a slider or knob is another problem. These controls have 128 positions so if you want to trigger the channels (20) you have to assign these positions (every 6.4) to the note number of the channel. If you use windows 98 you can do this with the midi mapper. windows 2000 and XP DON'T. The API is stuffed with many others true the PCI devices into ONE IRQ. This is also a hardware thing coz most audio cards are integrated these days (specially laptops). The only way to access the mapper (to my knowledge) is installing a seperate audio device on a dedicated IRQ: then you can use the midimapper.

We could ask Eddy & Bart to solve this problem in Resolume, but if you'd ask me, if it's for channel changes, I'd rather ask them to modify the chaos function, with two less chaotic functions: play clip once and then skip to the next one, and 3channel sound recognition (low-mid-high) that can trigger a channel.

Thanks for the help, very useful, just got to figure out how to assign, should be straight forward now I know

to go further in the midi implementation : when i play with a sequencer,the seq i recorded goes on the active channel (ch 1 for example),so if i wanna change something on ch 2 for example,midi seq goes on ch 2 ,so i got very random results not really what i was looking for,any suggetsions,couldn't we try a and assign a channel to incoming midi data and other only to pc keyboard triggering ?

Maybe it's preferable to use midi-devices for channels to solve this one. If Resolume supports device-ID's for the channels, you could play 1 midi sequence, with the data for the 3 seperate channels.
