1. I used Win98se and my mpeg's were just fine, but when I intalled XP mpeg's are slow and it's seems like they loose frames... What can it be?

2. Could you recommend me a program to convert files to AVI (to Cinepak)?

i found when i installed the latest windows media player (using win2k), half my mpeg's wouldn't play - the other half played badly.
Maybe microsoft is trying to force it's mpeg or wmv format as the standard on winXP??

Noddy, What are your specs of your PC? If you turn off some of the 'essential' services and 'crap' that comes 'free' with XP - you should get a reasonable OS but if your PC is a little old maybe think about using win2k.
Ether - no doubt thats what they want, without a mp3 encoder installed windows can only encode 1/2 quality mp3s and defaults people heavily towards WMA as a format - as with WMV, they included Movie Maker to hope that some poor user would accidently use WMV over other codecs - and who says monopolies don't work.... evil

I have Athlon 2500+, 512 Mb Dual DDRAM, GForce 2 MX400 64Mb... On my Maxtor 7200 I have two OS... Win98 plays media good, but it's not stable... WinXP doesn't play half of my mpeg's or plays 'badly'... Still I have no idea how I could use XP as a VJ

i'm using XP and it's working great with resolume. i use indeo avi files, but mpegs play fine on my computer. i have XP optimized with all non-essential crap turned off. maybe you need to update your codecs.

wma and wmv formats SUCK. what microsoft is trying to do is the opposite of what artists themselves would use the media for. they're aiming their technology at the average, dumb consumer.

MS Mediaplayer 9 and Xp sp2 do have the first paladium specs. Read more:

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html

Just forget mediaplayer and the codecs that come along with it. Don't install and don't update. Only use your own, tested and trusted codecs.

When this thing (paladium) goes any further, consider linux.

Have fun

gameboy,
i've read that page before, and it's really depressing stuff. if we don't do anything about this, we are going to end up in a nightmare world of centralized control, globalization, and consumer hell.

the only hope i have is that hackers will figure out ways of disabling the components in the OS that make this technology function.

information wants to be free - it's one of the laws of the universe - but don't worry bart and edwin: i've purchased resolume 1.51 and the upgrade to 2.0!
