layer <--> deck & effects on clip/layer

The number of layers and the the layer's names are not part of a deck, instead they are the same for all decks of a composition. I would have expected that they are linked to the deck - as the name and number of layers depends on the deck. Not a big deal, but something which confused me last night. :geek:

The second things has been mentioned here before, but I cannot find the post right now:
Applying some effects on clip or layer level results in unexpected output.
E.g: Timeline automate the x-position of a clip, and then apply the trails effect on it will not work. It also does not work on layer level, only when applied on composition level, the expected trails are generated. :?:

just two things I've noticed yesterday night.

cheers!

i also noticed the little bit strange behaviour from layer and clip effects....
it's a bigger problem when you do multiscreening with masks and f.e. 4:3 footage ;)
anyhow the hirarchy or something is'nt total logical, so you have to workaround which normaly works (for positioning, scaling etc...). Hopefully the resolume guys can fix this so that it reacts as one supposes! (hope this is still engrish ;) )

Hey guys

What's happening, is that first effects are applied, and after that transformations like scale and position. So the trails effect is actually working, it's just making trails within the layer, which is then moving in its entirety. Applying the effect on the composition does get the result you're expecting.

what i forgot to write....
the really problem i had was the problem (with multiscreening) when putting a mask on the layer....
if i resized or positioned a clip with parameters or an effect, the mask on the layer also reacted like this
the same problem i think was with the mask on the clip i think
so i suggestion the mask is applied somewhere before but if it's on the layer it should be applied afterwards, which is not the case!

We would like to add options wether your Mask is applied after effect has been applied or before, also applying effects after transformations like scale, rotate would be interesting.

As far as I understand from your posts, the path (for video) is (very roughly) like:

[apply clip effects] --> [apply clip properties] --> [apply layer effects] --> [apply layer properties] --> [apply composition effects] --> [apply composition properties] --> [output] Correct?

If so, applying the trail effect on layer level, I would expect to see trails based on the movement done on clip level (clip properties). something like:

[NO clip effects] --> [apply auto move xpos] --> [apply trail effects] --> [NO layer properties] --> [NO composition effects] --> [NO composition properties] --> [output]

but, I don't see any difference with or without the effect turned on or off. Only if the effects is on composition level.

Maybe I'm missing the forest through the trees!?

No, you're not. It's understandably confusing. We're working on some updates in this area that should make things more intuitive.

Thanks!

I was just thinking about a very flexible solution, which allows to drag 'n drop clip properties to the effect properties panel. (handle scale, position, anchor, etc as effect) :o

another small thing - but please don't get me wrong, I' don't want to be a nagger :(
The other day, I wanted to enable/disable the clip preview. My first thought was to go to the "View" menu, because "View" allows to show and hide the file browser and other controls and panels. It took me quite a while to remember the tiny switch on top of the preview window... However I like the switch, maybe you can add switches to the file browser and properties and effects panels too? Or just add the preview monitor to the view menu?
