Alpha channel settings?

Hi guys

Really loving Resolume 3 and getting ready for a big gig this month.

However I am finding it hard to learn certain areas of the software... do you think you guys could put together some video/text tutorials for some of the more useful functions?

Right now, I'm having problems with alpha channels.
I have videos with alpha channels, and I export them from Premiere, in DXV with millions of colours, square pixels etc.
When I import them into Avenue 3, the file plays fine and next to the RGB channels the A (Alpha) is also selectable - but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Is it really possible to have transparencies in Resolume using alpha channels? Right now I'm emulating the effect using Luma blend modes, but it isn't nearly as elegant a solution.
Alpha channels in .swf files seem to be working fine by the way.

Perhaps it's an easy fix - I'd be delighted if somebody could help out.

Cheers

Nana

Thanks Rene, I didn't find that post!

Are there any formats that you would recommend when it is necessary to use alpha channels?

export your clips in quicktime PNG, millions color+, RVB + Alpha

That's all

I usually use Quicktime Animation Codec (for both Mac and Win) for clips with alpha channel, and Quicktime M-JPEG for those with just RGB channels.

Has anybody a comparison/benchmark for Animation vs. PNG ?

Thanks both :D

I did a side-by-side comparison in Avenue, and the PNG video had much better playback quality. It's also half the filesize :)

Still, let's hope that someday we can get native alpha support in DXV!

Thanks again

Nana

Hi Nana,
The next release of Avenue will include a new version of DXV (will be available as separate download as well) with alpha channel support.

Great news - thanks Edwin!
That will make file management much easier.
Do you mean the next incremental release, or full release?
Hoping for the former

Uh oh, I need that now. As I type I am compressing a batch of renders to DXV and a couple of my movies rely on the alpha. So I'll cancel the 32-bit files and use PNG compression instead of DXV.
