Resolume Forum

Hello,

I just mounted a new PC dedicated to video processing and VJing and would like advice and/or advice regarding repartee data, system / Resolume / other softwares (such as after effects, premiere, photoshop. ..) / data (processed and loops to use in Resolume).

Here my setup:
Asus V2 Deluxe PT6
Pentium 2.80 GHz quad core i7 930
Video Card NVidia GTX470 1280Mo
Ram 2x2GB DDR3
Hard Drives (x2) Sata Western Digital 7200 // 32MB cache / / 640GB (x2)
O/S Windows 7 // 64bit

To know that hard drives are not configured in Raid and I also have an external hard drive LaCie e-SATA / 500GB 7200 which I used until now as hard data (video sequences for Resolume ).

What do you recommend to be spread on these drives to optimize performance (including Resolume ..!), knowing that plans to use relatively heavy video such as 1920x480px (broadcast via Matrox TripleHead on 3 screens) or HD.

for AE I'd definitely recommend 8+GB of RAM. Especially for working HD/32bit/…
for Resolume you could consider some SSD–drive for your clips (also nice for AE–cache).

ok for the ram, but not the budget for the SSD for now, we'll see later ..
if not is it better that I install Resolume on the same disk that the system or do I install it on the other disk (same disk as the data ..?), or keep data on disk e-sata external hard ..?

if you like... i think it is better in practice but i have never had a real problem with resolume being on the same disk as the OS. i find that if i have installed just what i need on the OS disk then I install resolume it works fine. (not sure if its answered your question but hope it helps)

weeell I'd say testing your system gives you the closest answer. So what I'd recommend is getting some little helpers to test clips on the external VS. clips on the internal HDD. In the end it would be best I guess to put all the clips per layer on their own HDD. As long as you don't have any SSD. But that brings up my wish for enhanced file–management inside resolume. Something like "package each layer onto a single HDD" (I am working on this with MAX if anyone's interested in helping ).
Concerning installation: It's probably a good idea to install Resolume onto e.g. C: and put the clips onto a different drive. That's at least what adobe's been telling us for the last decade (guess it is somewhat of a similar scenario with Resolume). Just think of your HDDs as postal–couriers: If you got one to forward 3 packages (3 layers) he will be slower than 3 forwarding 3 packages. Although I am not quite sure if it takes more time then put those 3 packages into the GPU etc. It's so many parameters. Like the resolution of your clips and so on. Maybe take 6 clips of your desired resolution, trigger them heavily and have a look at the fps. You could do the triggering automatically via the step sequencer max patch that you find in this forum.

I will do these tests and report the results ...
I thought about using the external drive to separate the sources, that I decided to try that too ...
