Request: Piano Roll for video samples to be used like NN-XT

Hi, I really appreciate the work that has gone into Resolume.

There is one gigantic feature that is being overlooked and would become legendary if implemented.

A sequencer that is similar to a piano roll that loads audio samples. But this one would load not only audio but also video samples along with it's corresponding audio.

This would ideally be able to snap to grid with 1/4, 1/8,1/16, and 1/32nd notes. The ability to pencil in video as midi notes like say how an NN-XT in Reason works. The songs and mashups that could be created would be godlike.

This would not have to function live at first at all if needed system resources would be too great.

If you are wondering what this could possibly be used for, I have uploaded an unfinished song for demo purposes to

Basically, to do this is a gigantic pain. 1. Get video 2. export audio 3. slice audio>create short samples 4. create NN-XT instrument in Reason 5. make song with these audio samples 6. import audio into video editing software 7. match up video frame by painstacking frame

A video sequencer would be godlike and make this process so much easier. Please please create one. I would gladly beta test for a year or more for free if it would help.

Thank you very much for your time and hard work

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll gladly make a feature request, but it could be quite a while before such a feature gets implemented. Also note that a large part of what you're describing is already possible using Live and Resolume together.

Cool video btw, gotta love youtube ;-)

But this is quite classic?! What Addictive TV do all the time... Or did I miss something?

Can be done using cue points, I think. Throw you found footage into one clips, set cue points to the beginnings of each sample and start to play. If 6 cues are not enough use several clip.
Right?

Thank you for your awesome replies!

This cannot be done quite right with Resolume yet. It's close but does not allow for the accuracy or amount of simultaneous clips that a real sequencer with piano roll would.

From experimenting with Resolume. *Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these parts*

1. If you use cue points these are not snapped dead to grid. Additionally you only have six points.

2. In Resolume When I setup cue points with my Midi keyboard you could not jump from say one particular video cue point to a completely different video cue point.

You could jump from one video clip to another but each individual cue point will not load until the first main clip that the cue point is in has been pressed. IE no jumping rapidly from all cue points mapped to the keyboard. (Let me know if there is a trick to do this). But even if there is, it would not necessarily even be time-wise correctly snapped to grid.

Thank you for considering this goto2010 and making a feature request!

Hey black.death

You are correct on your findings. Like I said above though, for such audio remixes, we actually recommend using Live as a sequencer tool to control Avenue. Live can export video as well, so cutting up your samples doesn't have to be so tedious. Check out the video tutorial here: http://www.resolume.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6187

Hi bart,

Pogo's videos including the one you posted "Wishery" is a great example of actually why Resolume should implement the features that I have requested.

Since, Pogo has pretty much the exact same process as me except he uses a PC. Trim clips with Adobe Audition, Sequence with FL Studio, and add video with Sony Vegas.

This is absolutely why Resolume should create a Piano roll setup that can be used with both audio and video clips with audio. This would eliminate the time consuming workflows that currently exist. I did indeed view the tutorial posted about using Ableton combined with Resolume.

This process is really not that efficient and required abundant shuffling back and forth between programs.

Please create a fluid piano roll style of sequencing video and audio clips, this will truly bring video/musical compositions to a whole other level and it will become a much more enjoyable process overall.

If this cannot be implemented in Resolume due to programming constraints, would you please create a separate program that does just this?

I honestly would gladly spend hundreds of hours to help you in this endeavor for testing for free. I would consider it a great honor to be involved in such a project.

Thank you for your time
