Improved random behaviors and pads for effect triggers.

It would be great to have a switch for random/timeline behaviors that would allow you to lock the current value once the clip is triggered.

For example, you could change the rotation of a "wipe" clip on a random basis, then once it's triggered, the value remains constant for that instance, while the value continues changing, so the next instance of the clip will have a different rotation. I could see this leading to some really interesting automation.

Something else I've been considering is the ability to trigger effects with pads. Coming from the DJ world, effects are generally linked to buttons/pads with knobs for parameters, but in Resolume, it's more of a fade in/fade out. With pads, we could use velocity to control the parameters instead. I Imagine a whiteout mapped to a pad, with the velocity controlling the 'attack' of the the whiteout, and then allowing it to slowly fade after the key press.

These suggestions both probably require major changes to implement, but I think they could open doors for making performances more expressive and interesting.

Hey Agent Orange

Both your suggestions are pretty interesting.

You can get pretty far with the first one by assigning the same key used for triggering the clip to the random key of the rotation value, but set to toggle. This will give a different rotation value everytime you press the key/trigger the clip.

I feel the second one may be a bit too specific to warrant general implementation. For instance, how would you see the fade out time being controlled? Add another parameter in the animation drop down menu?

That could be one way to handle it. Going back to music terms, you could have assignable values for the attack and release, with the sustain adjusted by simply holding the pad. Other than the whiteout example, I think this could actually be an effective way for triggering clips in general. It lends itself to the musical nature of the software, and could be configured to behave just like triggering works now, for everyone that's more comfortable with that.

I just tried what you suggested for random triggering, but I'm not sure what you mean by "set to toggle". Should I change the behavior in the editor for my controller, or is that something I can set in Resolume?
