i am pretty sure, that there is no such thing as an external graphic card.
why is resolume not working with yours?
what kind of card do you have?

you can get an external PCI case for your laptop via PCMCIA - but obviously it's only PCI not AGP, so speed may not be great. (i guess a graphics card would work in it...)

actually i don't know what kind of graphic card is in my notebook, i just got a gericom notebook pIV 2.6 GHZ, should be pretty fast, but i guess the graphic card is really shit, small movies (mpg), just loops maybe 5 sec. are not playing smooth.

Maybe you'll need to convert your small movies to .avi and use the mideo codecs to get optimal results.?
