i know this has been sorta answered in the faqs and i have already checked but i have come into ownership of a macpro with a nvidia 7300 card in it, yup its a crap card but the actual system its in is pretty hench. 14gb of high spec memory and 4 sata drives inside so i can run it as a raid for the video and also 2 dual core processors. the only thing thats letting it down is the gfx card. being a pc person and not really a mac "i know start throwing the rocks and burning fireballs now" and running resolume quite nicely be it from the odd crash on my dell studio xps.

I wanted to know whats a cheapish pcie gfx card i can chuck in it that will give me the functionality. i have tried running windows on it and it just about copes with doing a few things but its really really sluggish compared to the laptop. my masterplan being leave this in the venue where i do the majority of my vj work with my license on it and it means i dont have to rig everything for each gig i have to perform at.

having done a lot of googling and research all the cards that say they are officially mac compatible or the mac versions of the card seem to be extortionate in cost so do any of you know or can recommend a pc card that will slot in and still function

help much appreciated

incidentally this is what im gonna use it for to replace my laptop

In general we'd recommend investing in a good graphics card more than in CPU or RAM. Resolume uses the GPU to do the heavy lifting, so you'll see a definite increase in performance when you go for a decently specced card.

Cool DJ booth btw.

yeah i figured it was gonna be the card would something like a AMD RADEON HD 3650 512 MB DDR2/GDDR3 kick it enough as i have a friend who is selling one. regarding the rest of the hardware i cant really sniff at it as it was free. advantages of previously working for a company who got rid of all there macs and me being the IT manager.

regarding the cube it was a fairly easy setup and build, 1 projector lots of plumbers piping and some net curtain bit of setup involved in the masking so one mask for the frame and one for the sides of it. we now have it at a 45 degree angle so its a layer for each side using the keystone effect and one for both sides combined. with me becoming the venue tech a few months ago i have also installed a lot of cabling round the venue so i can send to the cube projector and also the 2 screens either side of the stage and the random plasma's dotted about the venue but its opened up a lot of possibilities for things and means we have now got dj yoda coming to play. the only nightmare about the venue is its multipurpose so everything has to be rigged during the day and marked out exactly where the cube has to go then we have to strike it all off stage so they can host a comedy club early evening and then we get 30 mins to get the comedy out, remove about 50 tables with chairs get all the audio and video setup built so we can open for 1030pm.
