Smooth playback - what am I missing?

Greetings,

Over the years I keep looking at Resolume but I can't get round one problem - smooth playback. The current features list is awesome. Resolume 4 Arena even better. Though if I can't scroll the clients logo across the screen (without staggering) the feature list is useless.

Hopefully its one setting I'm unaware of. If I can achieve smooth playback you will have a sale of Resolume 4 Arena before the test animation loops for a second time!

Test rig:
Intel i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz
12G of Ram
Windows 7
GTX 590
OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD
WD VelociRapture 600 HD
Resolume 3.3.2 (demo)
This is a decent machine so should be able to play back one layer of HD no problem.

Tried tested and failed . . .
Clean win7 install
Nvidia drivers upto date
Running windows off the SSD, animations off the HD and the SSD. And windows off the HD etc.
Codecs DVX, PICMjpeg and various others.
Test footage created in Cinema 4d (11.5) straight to the desired codec. Same approach with AfterEffects (5).
Frame rate 25, 30, 50 and 60.
Resolutions HD and SD
Different monitors (ie Resolumes' output)
Forced different refresh rates ie 50Hz for Pal.
Different DVI outs on the card.
Disable global effects
Even tried scaling (even though the animations are rendered out at the correct res)

If somebody could suggest any solutions I'd stop tearing my hair as I want this software!

Sorry to hear playback is not smooth for you. What's the framerate you're getting? (View menu -> Show FPS)

Cosmowe I'd gladly check your clips. Though I suspect they will stutter like every other clip I have tried. You say some clips, do you have a working clip I can do a comparision on?

Upload your clips somewhere and I'll try them for you.

have you tried to activate windows aero... heard of problems if it's deactivated!
nvidia control panel also features 3d settings like vsync, anti-alaising, etc... you should deactivate all these things, maybe this helps.

i activated aero recently - id always been told its best to deactivate unwanted services - turning aero on increased frame rate ( from 60 fps to 80 fps ) and eliminated tearing for me.

its an odd world when turning things on in windows speed stuff up!

If I remember correctly this is the case because the DWM.exe (Desktop Window Manager) makes better use of your GPU to render the Desktop. Compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_Window_Manager.

@ Cosmowe

It helps if read everything first ;-)

I appreicaite this. I really want this software but I need to be able to play a clients logo without them bitching about it stuttering.

I've upload the test files. DVX and Mjpeg. A simple scroll.

The Mjpeg plays perfectly through WMP, the DVX struggles a little. Through Resolume they both stutter. One layer, one clip in the memory, no scaling, no effects nothing.

Any wise words of wisdom would be a treasure
