GUI Freeze when using Flash

I haven't nailed the exact circumstances that cause this but it happens every session sooner or later. When playing a set containing Flash anims, the GUI will stop responding at some point, though output will continue, and the two playback windows (master, preview) continue to update.
I am running the latest Flash player, updated today, though it happened with the previous Flash build too.
Sometimes the freeze happens when dragging clips into the GUI from Windows Explorer. Sometimes, I am able to load SWFs in successfully and Flash playback runs successfully for a time, and sometimes the freeze occurs when triggering a Flash clip.
Until it happens, Playback appears normal, with framerate in the expected range.
I'm on XP Pro SP3.
Thanks
Richard

Hmm, that's odd. How does the performance feel, is the fps dropping a lot?
I added a transparency fix and that requires blitting a frame twice, so i wonder if that causes this problem. You din't experience this problem in version 3 or did you?

I'm pretty sure I never experience this in R3 and I've used it pretty extensively, live and otherwise. But that would also have been an older version of Flash.
I'll try some more things and send an email to

Any progress on this one?

Yes i think i made progress on this. I found a couple of little bugs that could cause a GUI freeze, at least quite some slow down on my machine. So at least i improved on performance but as i never could reproduce the GUI freeze it's hard to know it fixed for certain.

Cool - look forward to trying it out.
I can try out an intermediate build if you like, or a debug build, so I can submit an error log as well.
Cheers

Hi
I was wondering if your Flash fixes make it into the release build?
I've reproduced the freeze with the same SWFs as before with R4.0.0, though again I've never managed to reproduce it with the bundled Flash anims.
Have also noticed something interesting which might give a clue to the freezing issue. A number of my Flash anims use a bit of code to hide the mouse pointer. When one of those clips is in a deck slot, and I click it, the mouse pointer disappears in the Resolume client area, and only reappears when I move the mouse pointer onto the window border. As if something of the Flash environment is affecting Resolume operation in an undesired way?
Have a great Christmas & NY.
Cheers
Richard

i could reproduce a qui freeze when having a few flash animations running at the same time, the message thread got so busy that the gui didn't have time to respond to user input. I changed the way this works and now Flash playback is not so intrusive anymore. But i think your GUI freeze is not related to this and is caused by something else, but i tried and tried but couldn't get a freeze in another way. But you might be right that the scripts in Flash can be a cause. Please send me the mouse hiding file ( i don't know if i have it already) so i can give it another go .

OK thanks. I've sent an email to
support@resolume.com with files attached.
Also noticed in the R4 FileBrowser that when R4 is creating thumbnails for the first time that the mouse hiding issue also occurs when processing Flash anims with mouse hide scripts.
I tried dragging the problem animations in one at a time, and I haven't yet had a freeze that way.
I wonder if the GUI freeze you experienced is the same - I'm finding that the longer I play around with this, flicking quickly between Flash clips to try to reproduce the crash that the GUI becomes less responsive over time, sometimes taking a couple of seconds to switch between the "problem" Flash clips, and even when the FPS is reported as 59.70 that the performance is not so good, but I remember this also with R3.
When switching between the freezup anims, which are all pretty processing intensive as hundreds of objects are flying about, that's when I experience the GUI slowdowns and freezes.
Another thing that might be important is that I have not experienced a crash since I allowed the Browser to create thumbnails for all the anims, but would need to test that more fully.
Cheers
