No crash in v4 (Arena tested) BUT ....
I could make the first mask work "TEST".
When I try making the gradient a mask on a new clip, it replaces the clip if it doesn't already have a mask.
IF it does have a mask, it replaces it, but if you blank it, it reverts back to the previous mask

strange, is it a png or res issue?

We had no crash either but it does not always update the mask if you replace it. So we'll take a look at this.

here on my old macbook with r3, test mask runs fine, gradient does nothing, made a new mask with transparent instead of blue/yellow and it reacts...
seems you have to use transparency to get gradients in the mask, the colors seem not to be recognized.

We use the red channel for the mask if there is no alpha channel present (jpg for instance). When you load a .png it takes the alpha channel as mask. But if your .png has an alpha channel that's fully opaque nothing will be masked out. The best thing is to use greyscale jpgs or otherwise create a .png with a proper alpha channel.
We'll try to make it a bit smarter in the future.

we fixed the fact that the clip masks weren't always updated correctly in the meantime btw.
