Composition resolution VS Screen resolution

I am a newbie to all this so this question might seem stupid. If my 2nd display's resolution is set to for example 1024X768 then what is the exact role of the composition resolution in resolume? I am using resolume in full screen mode in DISPLAY 2.

The composition resolution is the resolution that your clips and effects are rendered at. This result is then scaled to the output resolution of your monitor.

For comparision, try setting your comp to 320x240, apply a Goo effect and then preview it on a 1920x1200 monitor. And now do the same with a 1920x1200 comp. See the difference?

For pixel perfect results, you'd want your source content, your comp size and your output resolution set to the same resolution (preferably the outputs native resolution).

thanks for that. one more small query is that if i am playing 640x480 clips at a composition resolution of 640x480 and 2nd display resolution of 1024x768 then are the clips supposed to be a bit sacrificed in terms of display quality?

Define 'a bit sacrificed' ;)

The clips will be scaled up, so if there are any artifacts in them, this will be magnified. For most content though, the result from scaling 480p to 768p is neglible. I very much doubt anyone in your audience will come up to you and complain about the tri-linear scaling artifacts that are so appalingly apparent in your output. If they do, give them a beer. :D
